Why We Sell Braids by the Kilogram and Not by the Meter

At Eurocarbon, we supply our braided reinforcements per kilogram rather than per meter to ensure fair, consistent, and technically correct pricing for our customers. The reason is simple:

The weight of the braid is constant, but the length is not.
The meterage of a braid varies depending on how much the braid is stretched. When a braid is pulled tighter (a smaller braid angle), it becomes longer; when it is relaxed (a larger braid angle), it becomes shorter. This means that one meter of product can contain different fiber volumes, depending on how the braid is measured.

Because of this variability:

  • Meter-based pricing can be misleading, as it does not reflect the actual amount of fiber the customer receives.
  • Two “1-meter” samples may contain different weights, depending on test conditions or handling.
  • The true technical value of a reinforcement is in its fiber mass, not its measured length.

By selling per kilogram:

  • Customers always receive the exact amount of fiber they are paying for.
  • The pricing remains fair, transparent, and directly linked to material usage.
  • Manufacturing tolerances in braid angle or take-up speed cannot influence the commercial quantity.
